Evolution of the Institution

When seperating Homagama and Nugegoda divisional secretariats Maharagama Divisional Secretariat was established. This office was first located in a private building in Dehiwala road. The AG's Office was opened on 29th March 1988. At that time, the initial staff consisted of four clerks, including the Chief Clerk. The first divisional secretary was Mr.A.H.Gamage.

• From the inception there were 41 GramaNiladari Divisions in this division.
• Later, a building was constructed in a land at Maharagama Mahamega place belonging to the Health Department and shifted the office there on 10th october 1992
• This was later shifted to the administrative complex of Maharagama Divisional Secretariat , which was opened by then President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 26th March 2010.
• It is undergoing current changes with the view of providing excellent service to the public as its theme
